Outstretched Arms

Have you ever wondered why the symbol of the cross is so important? It’s seen in many of our nation’s greatest and smallest churches that worship Jesus. It is a universal symbol of Christianity. It is a sign that makes people feel close to God, and it is He who makes people feel safe. It isn’t that they pray to the cross in it of itself, but it is the meaning that it holds. The cross can appear to be ridiculous to those who aren’t believers in Jesus Christ, but on the other hand, to those who have experienced first hand God’s transforming power, it has become the only symbol to be held in honor.

People wear crosses either on their clothing or jewelry. Crosses are often worn as an indication of commitment to the Christian faith. It makes them feel safe to know that Jesus is with them. It is a symbol to remind them of the sacrifice that Jesus did on the cross that is to be kept sacred. God changes all, men and women alike, by the great message of the cross and that this—that upon it Jesus was crucified. He died for our sins that we might have life everlasting if we choose to have it. God designed the cross to defeat Satan, the Evil One, and from then on, Devil’s power was broken at the cross.

As we study this picture meticulously, we will start to recognize what these verses mean. Let’s read a few here.

Romans 3:10 (New King James Version: NKJV) says, ‘As it is written: “There is none righteous, no, not one”

Romans 3:23 (Living Bible: TLB) ‘Yes, all have sinned; all fall short of God’s glorious ideal’

Romans 6:23 (New Testament for Everyone: NTE) says that ‘The wages paid by sin, you see, are death; but God’s free gift is the life of the age to come, in the Messiah, Jesus our Lord.

*This means we all are sinners and we are not holy in God’s eyes. This is why Jesus was sent by Him to fill the gap that separates man from God because only Jesus is holy. But before entering Heaven, we must do our part by believing and confessing that Jesus is Lord.

Looking into Hebrews 9:27 (Amplified Bible: AMP) it says, ‘And just as it is appointed and destined for all men to die once and after this [comes certain] judgment’

Romans 10:9-10 (New International Version: NIV) says, ‘If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.’

Acts 2:38 (World English Bible: WEB) ‘Peter said to them, “Repent, and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.’

*Satan is the fallen Angel

We read in Isaiah 14:12-15 (King James Version: KJV) ‘How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.’

Try an exercise right there where you are. You just need to stand up for a second, place your feet together, and hold out your arms from side to side like the boy in this picture. Wouldn’t you agree that your body resembles a cross? Your head, arms, and legs all form a cross. Okay, now that you’ve actually done this simple exercise, you’ll begin to understand why the cross is a valued symbol because Jesus became human just like you and I. He was mortal and traded His life for us, who are sinners. His holy hands and feet were nailed to the cross. This is why the cross holds such value to us believers.

We were made in God’s likeness; Jesus was made in God’s image, so our body makes the cross symbol if we stand and do this exercise, reminding us of what Jesus did on the cross for us. So do this every day to remind you of His sacrifice. He took your place. He took my place. He didn’t hesitate, but out of pure love, Jesus did what was right no matter how much it hurt him, because He wants you to choose life and not death. What are you waiting for? Run to Him! Choose Jesus today before it’s too late!

With peace and love,

Leticia Joy S.C.
