Do you remember that phrase that goes like this, ‘Worry less, Pray more’? It’s a famous one and for good reason. The more we worry, the less we tend to pray to God for help. The more reason our health suffers and the more we try to do it on our own but fail every time. Yet, if we pray more, then the worry will decrease because then, we will be trusting in God to help us through it all. This can then be less stress on our mind and on our body; for we do not need added stress on our physical bodies. Always keep in mind that God will never forsake you through trials you will face.
The Book of Joshua 1:18 (New International Version: NIV) says this, ‘…Only be strong and courageous!‘
So, check in with yourself. How have you been feeling lately? Have you been stressed out, worrying more or have you been praying to God to get you through everything that you’re going through right now in your life? Are you feeling strong and courageous to face the day or overwhelmed and discouraged? Has God been answering any of your prayers? At times, when we are in a season of waiting on the Lord, we tend to have our doubts. Will God answer my prayers? When will He answer me? Is God even listening to my prayers? When we doubt God for any reason, we must remember that God called us to only be strong and very courageous. We can only find this strength in Him, so let us rest in the Lord knowing that He is with us and that He will get us through the day, the week, and the month. So, do not doubt the Lord, but believe instead that He knows what He is doing and that He will answer you in due time. Do not be discouraged, but be happy. God is working it all out for you for good.
Joshua 1:7 (English Standard Version: ESV) reads like this, ‘Only be strong and very courageous, being careful to do according to all the law that Moses my servant commanded you; Do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may have good success wherever you go.’
Do not fear because God is with you. Just as the Lord has given us these words to confide in, we should help others as well turn to God when they are down. We should teach them the word of God to inspire them to keep going when they feel they cannot go on. When we see others that are having difficulties, try to give them hope by reading the Bible to them to remind them where hope is found-in God alone. Why are we called to encourage each other? We all need to feel encouraged at some point in our lives because some days are harder than others. We need other people to turn to whether it’s to hear how our day went, or to give us a hug, or for compassionate advice, or a shoulder to cry on. One thing is certain, we need people in our lives because without them we are lonely. The Bible teaches us that we should look to God and do less worrying because He is in control and God will be with us wherever we go.
As we look in Joshua 1:5-6 (New International Version: NIV) we can read this, ‘No one will be able to stand against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you. Be strong and courageous…’
We also need to help each other in good times and in bad. Even if it’s our little circle of close family, we should look to help each other with anything like sharing the chores, cooking, doing homework, or feeding the family pet. We need to love others as God has loved us and help one another emotionally also. As tough as it is sometimes, we should sit down through tough times and just talk about it. We must shine God’s light to other people so they can know that we are children of God. Have you ever tried to give someone encouragement? You probably have at one time or another, maybe to a family member or a co-worker. This helps to build up courage and self-esteem when they feel like they are not feeling too courageous. When you try to encourage someone who is sad or afraid, you are helping him/her get back the courage they have lost. Help them by reading them this verse right here.
Which says, in Joshua 1:8 (English Standard Version: ESV) ‘This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.’
Sometimes, we all need words of encouragement so be encouraging to others just like when you feel down, they will be there to help lift your mood up as well. Did you know one of the best ways to encourage another person is by reminding them that God is with them wherever they go. So remind them about this verse in Joshua 1:9 and they will feel encouraged by these words in the Bible. That’s how God Himself encouraged Joshua, who was one of the leaders of Israel.
We read in Joshua 1:9 (English Standard Version: ESV) ‘Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.‘
Brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus, we must be brave; not scared and worried all the time. We must be dedicating prayer time to God every day in the morning and at night. We have to be reading the Word every day so that our faith grows more on a daily basis because if we don’t it will dry up. It is like a plant, if you nurture it and water it, then eventually it will start to grow, if not it withers. Always no matter what, place God number one in your life. God should always be #1 above all else: before your spouse, before your children, before your family and friends, before work and co-workers, before anything-God should always come first no matter what!
Let’s take a look at Joshua 1:17 (New International Version: NIV) ‘Only may the Lord your God be with you as he was with Moses.‘
It is time to make room for Him to dwell in your heart so that He may begin to help you. Allow His goodness to flood into your life. He is the only one that knows you perfectly because He made you in His likeness. He understands what you’re going through and what you struggle with on a daily basis. He is just waiting for you to look to Him for help. Once you do, your faith will start growing in God.
Just start with a simple prayer like this…
‘God, I don’t exactly know what to say but thank you for today. Be with me Lord and guide me to do good things. Help me make better choices than I have been making in my past. I want to start praying more God because I don’t want to feel disconnected to you anymore. I’m sorry that I haven’t been praying when I should and I fill my day with everything else but You. Forgive me Father because I have been so distant from you, I repent of my ways. I know that every day I need you, God to get me through all these trials in my life because I cannot do it on my own. I know that with your help, I can get through anything. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.’
May God bless you!
